Fixing Primary Teeth

SmileTown – Just Kids Dentistry has the experience your children deserve when it comes to fixing baby teeth, especially the front ones! We typically see toddlers (14 months to 3 years old) require dental treatment on their front teeth because they fall asleep with a bottle, on a breast or they are breast fed on demand. Because there are fewer opportunities to practice proper oral hygiene care once your child has fallen asleep, these children are prone to getting cavities on their front teeth.

It is more typical for children three to five years old to require dental treatment at one of our three kid-friendly dental offices in Cambridge, Waterloo or Guelph, because they are prone to cavities on their back teeth. Cavities on the back teeth start either in the grooves on top of a tooth or between the teeth. Fixing baby teeth, even those in the back is important for overall oral and physical health. A dental examination is not complete if X-rays are not taken and sometimes are the only way we can determine if a cavity is present. Cavities are often not visible by the human eye, which is why it is so important at SmileTown that your children receive the proper X-rays when required.

Fixing Primary / Kids Teeth

When do primary teeth typically
fall out?

For many children, they will start to lose their front teeth around the age of six or seven. While the back teeth start to fall out at between the ages of 10 to 12.

Losing front teeth too early does not have long-term consequences on permanent teeth.
Losing back teeth too early does have long-term consequences on permanent teeth.
